Phil Stavropoulos has 18 years of experience with the University of Virginia. Phil joined Internal Audit as a staff auditor in 2001 and was promoted to senior auditor in 2002. He was chosen for an audit manager role in 2013 and then to become audit director for the academic division in 2015. Prior to joining UVA Phil worked in the Manhattan office of Ernst and Young where he served on audit teams in the media and entertainment, retail and wholesale, financial services, and technology industries; he also has lead merger and acquisition engagements.
Phil’s work at UVA is quite extensive and has included central administration, numerous schools, auxiliaries, and other supporting entities. Phil holds the Certified Public Accountant and Certified Fraud Examiner designations. Phil is an accomplished musician having performed at venues up and down the east coast, recorded in professional studios as both artist and engineer, and has taught music privately and in retail environments. Phil holds a BS in Accounting from Binghamton University (1996).
